When you pour stuff into the storm drains, Angelenos are warned, it goes to the ocean. When you put it in the bin, it goes to the Scholl Canyon landfill. Today we took the kids (ages 2 and 3) to see where garbage goes.

The pictures are light and hazy. I left them that way to reflect the current smog-and-photon storm.

The landfill is bordered by an immensely posh neighborhood carved into one part of the canyon.

There were lots of very exciting trucks of all kinds.

Here, you can see how the canyon is being filled in by the Garbage of Los Angeles. It's a very clean dump, actually, with no noticeable smell. The part we walked through actually looked like one of the hiking trails in Griffith Park.
