Had my eye on getting inside this large machinery storage building in the Liberty area of Toronto - for longer than I can remember. With all the redevelopment in the area I thought I'd never see inside while it was still proper and decayed. Until they left the door open last Saturday morning that is!
Outside it was hot and the annoying, insect-like noise of the Molson Indy car race was inescapable. Inside, it felt like a cathedral: thick masonry and worn wood soaked up all the sounds of the world. Diffused light came in through dirty windows and shafts of light came in through pyramid-shaped sky lights. Peaceful, fascinating, thoughtful.
