Washburne Trade School. Chicago, Illinois...

As its student body grew, the Chicago Board of Education run Washburne Trade School had moved to several locations. In 1958 the tuition free industrial training classes were housed in this former factory site on the city's south side. Over the following decades the loss of trade union sponsored apprenticeship programs and shrinking funding jeopardized Washburne's future. The school was taken over by the City Colleges of Chicago in 1993 and the remaining programs were moved off site. The building closed and remains vacant to this day.
