Portsdown Main

No-one who has ever been near Portsmouth in Hampshire can have failed to miss the art deco building that dominates the skyline. Portsdown Main was designed in the 1930s but due to World War II wasn't actually built until 1952. It has been home to various Ministry of Defence research departments over the years, changing its name on a fairly regular basis. It finally closed in 1997 and despite various planned occupations by other UK government bodies has remained empty ever since. The interior was fairly unscathed until recently, but has now deteriorated rapidly and the building is scheduled for demolition later this year. A sad end for a once proud building.
