I live between the "hip east" and the rundown parts of central Oslo.
"LAL means TIRED OF LOL - LOL!"
Outside the elementary school, kids learn the vernacular of the day...
...and just like the years before, this part of the city has already run out of money to salt the roads.
A proud athlete in a rundown park.
I like to think someone tried to prop up this trashcan, because it's seconds from disintegration.
The little bags of dog poo didn't get far enough.
Where I live, there are still working phone boxes - mostly used for drug deals, or by people lacking the 200NOK it would cost you to buy a "one use" mobile phone.
"Lethal high voltage".
Defunct framer's store - closed for years with paintings still neatly wrapped.
Ongoing "fasade renewals" - several of these buildings are old enough to make the upkeep of their outside required by law. Browsing ads for apartments, you will soon see the same does not hold for the insides.
You can pass now. A club name is scrabbled over the white door.
The crossing close to my apartment: always some car that won't follow the rules (looking at you, red one!).
This poster reads "ACCIDENT MONDAY if you need your grey hoodie marked "Vailent", two pockets in front, covered in blood*, just call me, I'll deliver it to you wherever you are.
* it has been washed thoroughly."
An old car meets the tram at Birkelunden stop.
"Garbage disposal is closed! USE disposal by main entrance or the room by the ramp."
(... the disposals were closed in the 80's, I believe!)
A welcoming sign by the mailboxes reads "This is no garbage dump! YOU throwing away YOUR mail (advertisements and more) STOP!! YOUR MAIL is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY! YOU as a tenant here in the complex should understand that you CANNOT keep pestering like this! READ the rules!"
But I love this place, it's the small things!
The last place we lived in: I went downstairs to chat with a neighbour, and found there had been a fire the day before. No one told us. But the fireman's shoes had burned imprints into the floor.
I study molecular biology at one of the best schools in Norway. Our building's computer room is perhaps somewhat outdated?
An unidentified pill drew a line nextdoor.
